LEILANI WORKING ON RACE CARS PART TIME
Mooresville, NC (May 13, 2004)
In addition to being a special correspondent for NASCAR.com, Leilani Münter is working part time at Bodies In Motion, located
at 154 Lugnut Lane in Mooresville, NC. Bodies In Motion provides body work and painting for Sprint,
Busch, and Cup race cars. Bodies In Motion, which was founded in 2003 by Eric Brunham and Richard Stone, has
clients that include Biagi Brothers Racing (#4 Busch Series), Mac Hill Motorsports (# 56 Busch Series), Tommy
Baldwin Racing (#6 Busch Series), Jeff McClure Motorsports (#08 ARCA), and Kasey Kahne Motorsports (Tyler Walker, USAC).
"I enjoy working on the race cars almost as much as I enjoy driving them. Almost." said Leilani,
"Doing body work is sort of like being an artist. In essence, you are sculpting a race car. The body hanger does
the primary sculpting, but we put on the final layer of polish, so to speak. Often times, it's our job to fix
problems in the body, to make the subtle changes-- the fine tuning that determines whether or not that race car passes tech once it arrives at the track."
Leilani has experience doing body work from when she worked for the # 54 Busch Series race car of Team Bristol Motorsports in 2003.
She worked in the race shop and traveled with the # 54 Busch team during the race weekends
until she began racing a late model at South Boston Speedway where she debuted with a
ninth place finish in the Coor's Light 150.
Leilani has also worked as a crew member on a variety of race teams
including late models, Southwest Tour, and Busch Series. She studied
racecar set up and geometry with former Winston Cup crew chief Larry
McReynolds and highly respected race instructor Mike Loescher.
