MÜNTER RETURNS TO THE WEST FOR NASCAR SW SERIES KONICA MINOLTA 125 AT PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
Avon, AZ (November 7, 2006) This week Leilani Münter will be returning to the west coast for the Konica Minolta
125 NASCAR Southwest Series race at Phoenix International Raceway. Münter began her racing
career five years ago in the Allison Legacy Series at Cajon Speedway in San Diego, debuting with a seventh place finish. Soon after,
she packed up her bags and moved to North Carolina.
"I'm really looking forward to racing in Phoenix," said Münter, who tested PIR last week with her teammate Eric Holmes, "My father lives in
Arizona and I have a lot of family flying in for the race. Also my primary sponsor Konica Minolta is sponsoring the race, so they will be at
the race as well, it's going to be a great time."
"North Carolina is a great place to live," said Münter, "but I will always be a California girl at heart. I hope to work
something out where I can come back out to the west coast next year and run some races in the NASCAR West Series."
This has been a record-breaking year for Münter, who spent 2006 running a combination of ASA, USRA Super Late Model Series and the
NASCAR Elite division. Münter finished fourth in the USRA Super Late Model Series' Konica Minolta 100 at Texas Motor Speedway, earning her
the highest finish by a female driver in the history of the speedway. She is also the first woman in 45 years to qualify for the Bettenhausen
Classic at Illiana Speedway in Indiana.
Münter also ran in a late model race in Wisconsin this year, where 50 cars arrived to compete. Leilani raced against notable short track racers,
along with NASCAR Champions Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth. She posted a time that was 3/10 of a second off of Stewart’s quickest time, ultimately
finishing 25th of 30th.
Münter's on track accomplishments have earned her two major sponsor deals this season. Her No. 57 Chevrolet is sponsored by Konica Minolta
Printing Solutions and you can also see her on Hostess Twinkies and Cupcakes boxes as one of the "Hostess Race Divas" alongside IRL's Danica Patrick
and NHRA's Melanie Troxel.
Münter plans on stepping up the ARCA Re/Max Series in 2007 with a top NASCAR
Cup and Busch race team which has not been announced yet. Look for a press release announcing her new team prior to ARCA's season opening event at
Daytona International Speedway.
