This is a place for me to express my thoughts on racing, the environment, science, politics, and whatever else might cross my wandering mind.
It will be an overflow of random ideas, reflections, notes and quotes to be enjoyed by those of you who take the time to read it.
Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you down the road...
Peace,

12.29.04 nude photos- to pose or not to pose, that is the question
I bet I got a lot of people to click on my blog with that subject line! However, this is a serious matter that I felt the need to address. It has been brought to my attention that there are some websites out there that claim to have nude pictures of celebrities and claim that I am on their site. If you pay the money to see the photos, what you will see are pictures of me from my FHM Magazine layout in 2003, with clothes on. Lots of the other celebrity photos on these sites are the same, pictures of them with their clothes on. They mislead the public in the advertisment to make them think the pictures of the celebrities are nudes, when in fact it's a scam they use to make money.
The nude photos don't exist, I turned down Playboy, even though the money they offered would have been enough to get me on the track full time for the first time in my entire racing career and pay off the debt I've racked up during my college years and those desperate days at the track when I charged racing tires on my credit card. I turned it down because I want to make it in racing based on my driving abilities and my ability to give a sponsor media exposure to help them sell more of their product. I also want to be able to hold my head up high when I walk through that garage.
So for all the fans out there that are writing me, telling me to pose for Playboy so I can go racing, here is my reply-- I am keeping my top on and continuing my search for the company that wants to go stock car racing with me because I can drive a racecar, not because of my appearance. Looks fade with time, so if you go through life trying to ride on your looks alone, what are you left with later? I just hope that saying is true-- good things come to those who wait. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year, be safe. Leilani

12.27.04 why i'm not racing
If there's one thing I've learned about racing in my past few years in the business, it's this-- racing is all about the benjamins. How fast do you want to go? Well, how much money do you have? There's a thousand hungry race car drivers in this town, who do you think gets the ride? The ones that can bring money, that's who. Either family money or sponsor money, that's the difference between being behind the wheel or sitting on the sidelines.
I have come to discover, much to my surprise, that a lot of people have misunderstood my situation because of my background in Hollywood and my magazine and television appearances. They think I am rich based on the fact that they see me in a magazine or they see me on tv. Trust me, if I were rich I would be in a racecar right now. Let me clarify the situation. In addition to the work I do for NASCAR.com, I work two other part time jobs. I live in a house with a roomate, not a mansion on Lake Norman.
"But you came from Hollywood, weren't you making tons of money there?" The answer is no! I was working for actresses that made tons of money there. I was the stand in, the stunt double- the girl that got thrown across the table for the actress so she wouldn't get hurt.
"What about the magazines you were in-- Esquire, FHM, Men's Journal, didn't that pay you lots of money?" Again, the answer is no. Understand that magazine appearances are done for free. I was told to do the magazine/tv appearances by marketing folks. They were done in hopes of reaching future sponsors through media exposure. And if I cared about the glitter and glamour of it, I would have stayed in Hollywood. I did it for one reason and one reason alone- I want to race stock cars. I have a passion for it, it makes me feel alive. I am one of the drivers in the garage that is only there if I have sponsorship. If I don't get sponsorship, I don't race, period. Just wanted to get that straight.

12.19.04 about love
"There are only four questions of value in life. What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same: only love." ~ Johnny Depp in Don Juan DeMarco.
I was having a discussion with some friends the other day and someone asked the question, "Is love worth it?"... referring to all the pain and heartache that often accompanies love. I think Anthony Hopkins (one of my favorite actors) said it all in the movie Meet Joe Black: "Love is passion, obsession, someone you can't live without. If you don't start with that, what are you going to end up with? Fall head over heels. I say find someone you can love like crazy and who'll love you the same way back. And how do you find him? Forget your head and listen to your heart. Run the risk, if you get hurt, you'll come back. Because, the truth is there is no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love - well, you haven't lived a life at all."
My two cents, Leilani

12.01.04 ahhhhhh, paris
I just got home from a cold and rainy but beautiful Paris. I saw the Louvre and all the other hot spots from Da Vinci Code and since my latest read is Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum, I went to see that as well, it hangs in the Pantheon. Soaked up my very first Rugby match, watched the New Zealand All Blacks beat France, 45-6, at the Stade de France. Paris is the City of Love, so if you are in a romance, I highly recommend making the journey.
Also, the Metro is a great way to get around, no need
to drive anywhere. Happy trails, Leilani

11.24.04 another racing season goes by
I just wanted to thank everyone for all their support this year. 2004 has been a
busy year for me, full of so many changes. I have had a great time working as a correspondent for NASCAR.com-- from my first assignment at Daytona testing in January all the way up to the finale in Homestead. I have made some great friends along the road. Thanks go out to Doug Hooks of Dyer Electronics and the entire Hooks Motorsports crew for giving me a great race car so I could run up front with the big boys at Texas Motor Speedway-- man, was that fun! Thank you to Hal Samples for taking the beautiful pictures at the track and to NASCAR.com for airing a video of the race. Also, special thanks go out to FHM Magazine and
TRIMSPA-- without them I would not have been able to race this year. Looking forward to doing more of that in 2005. Happy holidays! See you in Daytona, Leilani

11.15.04 for a good laugh
This video is so hilarious I felt inclined to share it with everyone. Turn up your volume.
