DAYTONA BEACH, FL - What was scheduled as a weekend of last minute Christmas shopping turned into a weekend turning laps at the most hallowed track in stock car racing for Leilani Münter. After receiving the call Monday afternoon that James Hylton Motorsports had race car without a driver, the week was a mad rush to prepare for Leilani to drive Hylton Motorsports’ 2005 Ford Taurus. Münter fitted her La Joie racing seat into the car on Tuesday and only two days later, she was on her way to Daytona.
It was Leilani’s first time back in a stock car in two years. In 2007 Münter became the fourth woman in history to race in Indy Lights, the development league of IndyCar.

How do you reach 100 million people with simple green messages about how to live life better? Leilani Münter has an idea: put them on a race car. As a professional race car driver (4th woman in history to compete in the Indy Pro Series) and avid environmentalist, she reaches a broad audience: 18 out of the top 20 sporting events in the US are auto races. Her Eco Dream Team project is a way to start a dialog with racing fans and help educate them on what they can do everyday to be more sustainable. She is already seeing a lot of change from her efforts, and is even taking her message to Washington D.C.
